Startling topaz eyes sweep idly across the vast expanse of land before them. Swiveling in a their sockets, set in a delicate frame, they take in the unchanging scenery of grass and trees, hoping against hope to find something out of the ordinary as their wandering gaze was forced back to a point of focus within its immediate range. A gentle sigh escapes alabaster kissers, a simple sound of disappointment that was silenced shortly after being given life. This place was no different, nothing she hadn't seen countless times in the last few months. She would not let this defeat her however, there had to be something she hadn't seen before, something she hadn't smelt, felt; she knew she had far from experienced all that the world had to offer a wandering soul such as hers. A soft smile touched her lips at the thought and and her elegant head tilted slightly upward so that she was able to glance toward the sun, lids closing over her eyes as she took comfort in its cascading warmth.
Her mind began to slip away as she shut herself off from the world stretching endlessly beneath her, and she did not struggle to call it back. A strange sense of lethargy had long been attempting to overwhelm her, drugging her system until she was so close to a ledge that had no bottom in sight. Until now, she had fought the urge to take herself away, determined to face the world in all it's ugly colors. Until now she had refused to acknowledge the true helplessness of her situation. Here, in this place, she felt the fight go out of her, felt the burning sting build up behind her eyes and wondered if in the last month she had finally begun to lose herself. Thinking logically had become a difficult task, finding what had always been the obvious solution to an escapable problem seeming near impossible. She couldn't run away from herself. The burning sensation behind her eyes intensified, forcing a startled gasp to rasp against the back of her slender throat. The darkness pressed closer to her, and again she put up no resistance, almost relishing in the cool touch that contrasted the external warmth she was only vaguely still aware of. The darkness only spread so far, a deepest in black in the recesses of her mind that she dare not trespass upon, fading gradually until there was nothing but a comforting gray pillowing her conscious. So it would seem she had not lost all of the spirit in her yet, there was a fire flickering, however faintly, that kept the true darkness at bay for a while longer. The smile on her lips grew minutely at the realization, but the searing burn behind her eyes did not let up. She lifted her head higher, the tendons in her swan-like neck stretching taunt, caressed by a contrast of fire and ice that swayed with the extremity of the motion as her head was then thrown suddenly back down, struggling past the lump in her throat. She would not cry, she would not be defeated so easily. She would not give up.
Something different... She would find something different. A different place for a different girl. A sharp intake of breath filled her lungs, expanding her petite frame, jarring her statuesque pose. The movement broke her frail hold on concentration and she rushed to call her functioning mind back to her. Though once again aware of her surroundings, she refused to acknowledge the small piece of land that was around her, refusing to admit the dismal continuance of her unwanted routine. She inhaled again, this time taking a moment to analyze the different scents that invaded her senses. As expected, most of them were quite familiar, though there was a distinct flavor to it all, as there had been with all the others, that let her know she did not meander in pointless circles. She exhaled, and her ears pricked forward at the sound. Following it, she tuned in on the faint calling of the smaller lives going on around her, and stumbled across something that was quite alien.
It was quiet.
Underneath the sing song voices, the rustling of leaves and grass, even beneath the gentle thrum of many heartbeats, it was quiet ... It was unexpected. Her eyes flew open, a frantic gleam glistening in their jewel toned depths; her face blanched, draining of what little color it naturally held.. It couldn't be so easy. Surely this was some cruel and twisted game played by the gods.... Anger soon replaced the shock that resided over her delicate features, but she made no move to curse the deities that found her heart strings so amusing.
This was something different.
