The Afterlife
When rumours are told about Katherine's return, Damon can't believe his luck. But of course it all comes crashing down around his ears when he finds out who she is returning for. Stefan was the one who had caught her interest and she was planning on keeping it that way. The fight for his attention would be tough but using Elena definatly wouldn't work, it was would have the opposite effect.
Damon having no one to turn to turns to Elena. She comforts him and sympathizes with him also. During these few weeks they tend to get closer and closer. It's not like Stefan doesn't have enough on his mind now he has to watch these two? He struggles to keep his emotions from getting the better of him. Damon on the other hand has no problem with his emotions and even though the love for Katherine could not be replaced new feelings stir for Elena.
Elena, not only freaked out about the news of Katherine realises her feelings for Damon are growing. She still loves Stefan but knows there is something there for Damon also. Also she is struggling to help Bonnie who after loosing her Gramms is empowered. All of the magic in her Gramms spirirt flowed freely into Bonnie.
